Softball Heading Back to Nationals in New York
NDSCS Looks to Defend Their National Championship
The NDSCS Softball team took care of business during the Region XIII tournament this weekend in St. Cloud where they went a perfect 3-0 and punched their ticket back to the NJCAA DIII World Series in Dewitt, New York.
This is the sixth straight Region Championship for NDSCS. The Wildcats defeated Central Lakes by a score of 8-0. The semi-finals saw the Wildcats take on St. Cloud Tech where the Cyclones grabbed an early 0-2 lead on NDSCS. The 'Cats stormed back with a big three run second inning to take a 3-2 lead. Ella Stewart pitched the final five innings for the Wildcats where she was perfect from the mound not giving up a single hit or walk in those five innings which included eight strikeouts. The championship game pit NDSCS against SCTCC for a rematch where the Wildcats' bats came alive for a 9-4 win to claim the Region. Cali Fox went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Blythe Proulx and Jessi Mathews each had two RBIs as well. Stewart, once again, was dynamic on the mound where she went six innings giving up three hits, one walk, and only one run while striking out 12 of the 22 batters she faced to pick up her 18th win on the year which is fourth best in the nation.
NDSCS is looking to defend their National Championship as they travel to Dewitt, NY with games being played May 20-23. Games will be broadcasted on the NJCAA Network.
