Wildcats Blank Comets in Season Opener
Wildcats Play First Game on New Minn-Kota Ag Field
The NDSCS Wildcats Football team opened up their 2025 season against Mayville State University JV on Saturday, August 30. The Wildcats got off to a quick start when Michael Douglas Jr took the first offensive play for the Cats 73 yards for a touchdown to give NDSCS the first score on the day. Boone Roemeling would get the next score for the Wildcats to open the second quarter with a two yard QB keeper. Roemling would then find Trevon Rodriguez on an RPO for 23 yards for another score putting the Cats up 21-0. Jacob Mattick would score again for the Cats as he took a QB keeper for a touchdown where the halftime score would read 28-0 NDSCS.
The second half scoring started with Mattick throwing a TD to Ishmael Emmanuel-Holloway who made a spectacular catch in the corner of the endzone. Darius Jones scored on a four yard touchdown run as well as the defense recovered a fumble in the endzone to conclude the scoring on the day. The Wildcats came away with a 49-0 win.
Mattick led the Wildcats in passing going 7-8 for 70 yards and a touchdown. Douglas Jr led in rushing with nine carries for 128 yards and a touchdown. Rodriguez had five catches for 47 yards and a score. Kicker Ryndon Olsen went a perfect 7/7 on extra points.
Defensively, the Wildcats were fantastic on the defensive side of the ball pitching a shutout as well as rarely letting the Comets on the NDSCS side of the field. The Wildcats forced five fumbles and recovered two while Landan Reaves had an interception and returned it for 24 yards. Connor Perkins and Reaves led the Wildcats defense with five tackles each.
The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday where they'll play Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range at 1:30 PM.
